A few good questions.
Is local mode really free?
Yes. Create a free account with Google or email to get started. No card or cloud subscription is required. Initial sign-in, email verification when applicable, and the model download need an internet connection. After setup, local transcription works offline on your Mac.
Why do I need an account for local mode?
A free account is required to start using Recordings. Signing in does not select a cloud model, start a subscription, or upload your local recordings. Your local audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. If you sign out, sign in again before making a new recording; your saved Library remains available.
What is sent to the cloud?
When you choose hosted transcription, the recording is sent to the service and its transcription provider for processing. Local mode does not silently switch to the cloud. Read about privacy.
Can I stop paying and keep the app?
You can continue using local mode for free. Manage an active cloud subscription from your account; the billing portal shows when changes take effect.

The current release requires macOS 26.0 or later on Apple silicon. See the installation guide.
