Open Recordings.dmg and drag Recordings to Applications. Eject the disk image, then open Recordings from Applications. The current app is built for Apple silicon and macOS 26.0 or later.

Create your free account.
Choose Continue in the app and sign in with Google or create an account with email and password. Verify your email if asked, then return to Recordings. No card is needed. You can also create an account here.
Choose where to transcribe.
Choose Local and download a model to transcribe on your Mac for free. After this initial setup, local transcription works offline. Signing in keeps your selected mode; cloud transcription is an optional paid choice in Settings.
Give your shortcut a try.
Allow microphone access when macOS asks. Follow the app’s permission guidance for global shortcuts and automatic paste, then use Test your shortcut in Settings. Tap Fn once to start and once to finish.
One app, kept up to date.
For future releases, choose Recordings → Check for Updates… in the menu bar.
